During the last few years Lund University, Campus Helsingborg, Sweden has hosted an International Graduate Summer School. A number of important questions, arising out of the fundamental changes taking place in- and outside universities and research institutions throughout the world, have set the agenda.
This year, 2009, the format is changed to a shorter international conference on “Religion in an Open Society”.
The focus will be on two fundamental questions; one concerning the relationship between religion and science, using the presently much discussed controversy between Evolutionary Theory and Intelligent Design Theory as a case study; and the second on the role of Religious Free Schools in an Open Society.
Our speakers will present ideas from a number of different disciplines including Biology, History, Sociology and the Philosophy of Science, Theology, Political Theory and Philosophy; and present the legal and political context as a necessary background for the discussion.
The speakers represent universities, educational institutions and media in different countries and so do the participating students.
All the presentations and discussions will be filmed and made available on the Internet.
Anyone interested in the questions and problems discussed is welcome to attend.
There is no conference fee. To fill out the application form, please press here.
One hotel and one hostel offer accommodation to subsidized rates. Please make your own reservation here and do not forget to mention that you are participating in the conference “Religion in an Open Society”.
The conference is made possible by a generous grant from the City of Helsingborg.
Welcome!
